This is the exact framework I use when I’m picking summer side dishes:

  • One bright, acidic side (think vinegar, citrus, pickles, herbs) to cut through BBQ sauce and wake everything up
  • One crunchy, refreshing side (cucumbers, slaw, corn, watermelon, crispy veg) so the plate doesn’t feel soft-on-soft
