Easy DIY Grill Grate Cleaner – Homemade Grill Cleaning Solution
Step 1:
Gather Your Supplies: To begin, gather the necessary supplies for cleaning your grill:
- 1/2 cup Blue Dawn dish soap
- 1/2 cup Baking soda
- 1/4 cup white Vinegar
- Water
- Bucket
- Hose
- Microfiber Cloths [These are perfect for wiping down the exterior of the grill and providing a polished finish]
- Wool Soap Pads
Step 2:
Remove the Grates Start by removing the grates from your grill and placing them aside for cleaning.
Step 3:
Rinse Off Excess Dirt Using a high-powered hose, rinse off as much excess dirt and debris from the grates as possible. Avoid scrubbing at this stage, as it may not be effective.
Step 4:
Prepare the Cleaning Solution Fill a large bucket with water and submerge the grill grates. Add approximately 1/2 cup of baking soda 1/2 cup of Blue Dawn dish soap and 1/4 cup of vinegar to the water. Use the hose to mix the solution thoroughly.
Combining baking soda with vinegar forms a potent paste that can break down tough grease and grime.
Step 5:
Soak the Grates Allow the grates to soak in the cleaning solution for at least an hour, ensuring that they are fully submerged.
Step 6:
Scrub Away Dirt After soaking, remove the grates from the solution and scrub away any remaining dirt and grime using steel wool soap pads. Use elbow grease as needed to tackle stubborn spots.
Step 7:
Repeat if Necessary If the grates still appear dirty after scrubbing, consider repeating the soaking process overnight for a more thorough clean.
Step 8:
Rinse and Dry Once the grates are clean, rinse them thoroughly with water and dry them well before placing them back on your grill.
Step 9:
Enjoy Your Like-New Grill With your grill grates sparkling clean, you’re ready to fire up the grill and enjoy cooking your favorite dishes with confidence. If needed, for an added gleam, use a natural degreaser approved for grills.
